About the Gardens

Our History

Kasugai Gardens was completed in 1987, the image to the left is an image of the unveiling.  Local community leader and farmer Roy Tanaka, played a vital role in bringing this project to fruition.   With the aid of gardeners and architects who traveled from Kasugai to Kelowna to design and construct the space. Today, the garden stands as a lasting tribute to the friendship and cooperation between the two cities.

Garden Features

Visitors can wander by koi-filled ponds, cascading waterfalls, and a peaceful stone garden, or pause at the authentic tea house for quiet reflection. Stone lanterns, ikebana floral displays, and carefully arranged plants and rocks create a balanced harmony that reflects centuries of Japanese garden artistry.

Circle of Friendship - In Honour of Roy Tanaka

The Circle of Friendship, created by local artist Gert Maas, stands as a tribute to Roy Tanaka and his lifelong dedication to building connections between Kelowna and Kasugai. Installed in Kasugai Gardens, the sculpture symbolizes unity, cultural exchange, and the enduring bond between the two sister cities. It honors Tanaka’s vital role in bringing the garden to life and preserving the spirit of friendship it represents.
